when most of us hear the word Accounting - we cringe. even though the math is simple - it somehow seems unbearable. thank goodness for experts that get it - so we can worry about other things (like which new designer to bring in for Holiday! or which dress to put in the window display!).

The Accounting Spot is run by a woman named Holly who has a BA in accounting and an MBA. two kids later and she’s left the grind so she can be at home with them while pursuing her smarts and helping small businesses with their accounting needs.

i don’t know about you - but i like to work with people who “get me”. In other words - someone who is an expert in their field - but would be very likely to be your customer as well. Holly is cool like that. If you’re a DIY-er, she created a slew of forms that you can use to manage your own books (they start at $8). If you need help with one project - that’s cool too. And if you just want someone to do it all - all the time - she’s your lady.

if you’re used to working with a local accountant - fear not. when i owned ooma, i hired a gal who i never even met in person! we did everything online. same with my web designer. virtual companies are great to work with - because it’s easier to schedule (you do things on your time, she does things on her time), it’s better for the environment (no driving to meetings! no unnecessary paper!) and it’s no big whoop.

if you’re too busy with your shop or not that keen with numbers - perhaps this is a great way to free up your time and get your books in order. i majored in finance - and i still outsourced my bookkeeping! with affordable costs - there’s no reason why you need to do your own accounting (unless you dig it, of course).

note that Holly does not offer Payroll at this time - but is looking to add the service soon. And she’s not a CPA - so no taxes!

I try to keep my pricing very straight forward by charging a flat monthly fee. This fee is based on your individual needs and the estimated time to complete. I do this so that there are no surprises at the end of the month. You know up front what your cost will be and you will never be surprised with a bill higher than you expected.

My rate averages at about $25/hour.

To get started, I like to learn the way you do your accounting. The way you do it may be messy, it may not be in good form, but this is a great way for me to become familiar with your business. Once I understand the current process, I will use my skills to streamline and look for areas of improvement. I am a stickler for accuracy and efficiency, so those are often my main goals. Of course, if you like the current process I can continue doing it that way too. It is your business, it is your call!

If your business is brand new than I will just ask you question after question until I get the full perspective of your business. I will then create procedures and practices from which I will follow.

Either way, this is your business, I am here to help you succeed in any way I can!

How is VIRTUAL ACCOUNTING possible? I use the following technology:

Remote PC Access: This allows me to securely log in to your office computer and access the necessary files. I can open, change, save, print...all as if I am live in your office.

QuickBooks Online: If you run your accounting on QuickBooks, this is a great option. It allows all transaction to be completed remotely. It can be accessed from both my location and yours at any given time.

NeatReceipts: This is a great scanning & filing system. I can scan and digitally file all of your loose papers. Then either you or I can access the files at any given time.

Google Docs & Groups: These are great programs that allow file sharing, organization, and information sharing. It makes it so easy for either you or me to access the necessary files.

All the Good Old Fashion tools: And of course, there is always mail, email, phone and fax to share communications and papers.

Hi! I'm Holly. I'd love to be your accountant/bookkeeper. Here is a little about me...

I am a work at home mom to my two little boys. They are fun and busy! This business is my opportunity to maintain my position as majority care taker of my boys, but yet exercise that business and accounting itch I just can't shake. I have dedicated office hours and days (which may very, but will be posted), of which allows me to get the job done (in a timely and efficient manner I may add)!

I have a BA in Accounting and a Master's in Business. I have over 10 years office experience and over 6 years professional accounting experience. I've worked in manufacturing, non-profit and small business, so I more than likely have the experience you need. I also have a great support network, for those times that I just don't have the answer, I can get it!

I left the corporate world in late 2005 when my first son was born. Within a year I was beginning to feel the accounting 'itch'! I was able to secure an amazing part time job (see references). Soon after my second son was born we moved 150 miles away from that dream job. Now, I live in rural western Washington. It is lovely...but not much opportunity for my next perfect job. SO! I am creating this virtual accounting company, from the ground up.
